Email and Chat Sync on Your Phone

1. Open the Gmail app on your phone.
2. Tap the three-line menu (☰) in the top-left corner.
3. Scroll to the bottom of the menu and open Settings.
4. Select your Google email account.
5. Scroll down to the Data usage or Sync section and check that the “Sync Gmail” box
   is ticked.
   Step 2: Turn on the Chat tab inside the Gmail app
   To have chat built right into the same email app, without installing any additional apps:
6. Inside Gmail, go back into Settings and select your account.
7. Look for the section called General or Chat.
8. Turn on the option Show the Chat and Spaces tabs.
9. The app will restart for a second, and you will see that at the bottom of the screen
   you now have 4 tabs: Mail, Chat, Spaces and Meet.
   Step 3: Check your phone’s notification permissions
   So that email and chat messages reach you instantly, in real time:
10. Go to your phone’s Settings > Notifications > Gmail.
11. Turn on the option Allow notifications and make sure banner alerts, sound and
    bubbles are enabled.
